Your Guide
Carol is the owner and creator of Reignite Scotland. Born and bred on a Perthshire farm, Carol has spent every family outing and holiday exploring Scotland and learning about its extensive history and heritage. Studying ‘British Sign Language’ ignited a similar passion for accessibility, one that she wanted to combine with her love of Scotland.
Carol also enjoys collecting militaria, working on the family farm, practicing martial arts and longsword and baking the odd sweet treat!
Carol is an enthusiastic purveyor of Scotland, an accessibility ally and most of all, genuinely wants to make your visit to and around Scotland a memory you’ll hold for a lifetime.
Tourism Experience
Carol worked as an experience tour guide at the iconic Scone Palace, crowning site of the Scottish kings for several years before working as a ‘Coo-visor’ as part of Visit Scotland’s unique ‘Coo-van’ mobile visitor information project. This took her all over the country, from the glorious wild mountains of the Cairngorms, to the bustling city centre of medieval Edinburgh to the world-renowned prehistoric sites of Orkney and all around.
Working with Visit Scotland gave Carol an unique insider view of Scottish attractions. Able to meet with business owners, see behind the scenes at events and trial attractions first hand. This means Carol not only knows the pulse of Scottish tourism, but knows where to find the best seats in the house.
Accessibility Experience
Carol first became interested in disability accessibility while studying British Sign Language. She identified a significant lack of accessibility knowledge, training, experience or even awareness within the tourism industry which she wished to address.
Carol has since worked within the care industry working direct to customers in training – giving her further insight and real-life experience of disability accessibility.
Her accessibility training and experience includes:
– Qualified to level 3 British Sign Language, currently studying Level 6 and approaching fluency
– Holds a level 2 qualification in Deafblind Communication and Guiding
– Sensory awareness training
– Epilepsy awareness training
– Person-centred dementia care training
– Acquired Brain Injury awareness training
– Working direct to customer within the care industry for two years, including experience in adapting communication and teaching methods, awareness of differing learning needs and knowledge of physical accessibility aids and accessible software
– Volunteering within the Deaf community as a befriender/translator and on the committee of the National Signing Choir Competition 2019
